Ethan Ostrow is a New York-based pianist, composer, and teacher from Berkeley, CA. Ethan has had the opportunity to perform at iconic NYC venues such as Birdland Jazz Club, Rockwood Music Hall, Chelsea Table & Stage, and more. He has also headlined and performed at some of the Bay Area’s finest venues including Yoshi’s, The Fox Theater, The Freight & Salvage, The Sound Room, and Maybeck Studio. Ethan plays in various groups in NYC, including frequent shows with up-and-coming trumpet player Kellin Hanas, and performances with his own band, including a major project composed for the band, string quartet, and spoken word.
Ethan strives for an intense, lush sound and demonstrates deep personal expression. His music ranges from soaring melodies over head-banging rock grooves, to intimate reflective ballads. As much as his band, The Outisde In, likes to burn down the house, Ethan's compositions are also thoughtful and introspective. Having led a double-life as an actor for many years, Ethan understands the power of storytelling, and brings it to his music every performance.
Ethan frequently combines his love of music with his passion for cancer charity work, and is proud to have raised over $55,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through his "Concert for a Cure" series.
Ethan is currently a student at the Manhattan School of Music, being mentored by Stefon Harris, Dayna Stephens, Phil Markowitz, Jaleel Shaw, and Jeremy Manasia. He has also studied with Bay Area legend Susan Muscarella, and spent a year in Minneapolis playing with and learning from Phil Hey (Dewey Redman) and Dean Sorenson (Glenn Miller Orchestra, Frank Sinatra).
